United States and Kenya to Hold Second Negotiating Round Under the Strategic Trade and Investment Partnership
There were no new formal FTA negotiations in 2023 aimed at traditional tariff elimination or binding market access. The U.S. and Kenya had initially explored an FTA in earlier years (formal FTA launch in 2020), but by 2023 the focus had shifted entirely to STIP, which is not a traditional free trade deal but rather a high-standard partnership framework.
STIP talks in 2023 therefore represent the main pathway for deeper bilateral trade engagement during that year, shaping commitments that might feed into later negotiations toward a more comprehensive trade deal.
